==== proposition: use symbols instead of integers as identifiers.
====

I see we are using integers as identifiers for our entities. Before we get too far, there are pros and cons to using symbols instead. A symbol is a unique string. If we have a unique string we need not assign unique integers.

''''pro'''': tables become readable and more easily applied with simple tools.

''''con'''': symbols can imply multiple meanings, e.g. fast, fast1, fast2.

''''con'''': a human must choose a unique symbol

''''pro'''': a unique symbol is usually obvious.

''''con'''': An unique symbol is usually a point of contention between different humans. (Numbers automatically assigned avoid this issue.)
==== requirement: audit trail

We are responsible for our own backups. A complete dump of structure and data in SQL is a good backup. We can keep these virbatum on the [[PubWanBackup]] calendar.
