This is my personal experience.<br />
<br />
When i was at Rutgers, this one professor called me delusional for<br />
my ideas. However, the same idea, when i tried to explain to<br />
Bushnell/Agarwal, they thought i was brillant and let me do research<br />
with them.<br />
<br />
Dr. Bushnell won the Young American Presidental Investigator<br />
Scholarship and is also a senior member of the IEEE.<br />
<br />
Dr. Agarwal is both an ACM/IEEE fellow ( an award shared by a select<br />
few in the world).<br />
<br />
The same was with my ideas on physics. When i tried to explain myself<br />
to this one physics prof, he thought i was completely wack. Whereas,<br />
this other professor(affilated with Los Alamos) was extremely willing<br />
and thought my insights were worthwhile.<br />
<br />
Moreover, I personally know programmers who are mentally ill, and<br />
others, who take halluciganic drugs, who are execellent coders.<br />
Excellent coders as in sense that their programs were extremely<br />
stable, had almost no bugs in them and were extremely brillantly<br />
designed. So, it makes you wonder how an insane person can be so<br />
logical.<br />

It has been my observation that even though these people are legally<br />
insane, they still can function perfectly within a garbage in, garbage<br />
out system, as in writting a program. Theorectical Physics is not such<br />
a system. And most cranks/crackpots do not have tools to try their<br />
ideas and see if they actually work. Moreoever, academics shun away<br />
the cranks and crackpots ideas and theories, only worsening the<br />
situation.<br />
<br />
As a matter of statistics, 1% of the world suffers from severe mental<br />
disorder. Then ask yourself, how many times in the news, you hear<br />
insane people, jumping off their windows, thinking that they could<br />
fly. Most cranks/crackpots who post here and other places also hold<br />
day jobs. And think of how they happen to survive, being a complete<br />
loon.<br />

It's really, when you work things out, with enough reinforcement,<br />
delusional and completely wack people, can function just as 'normally'<br />
as sane people.<br />
