An information volunteer uploads BulkInformation. Wiki engines are great for text information. Bulk information is tabular information, or information which can be expressed as a CSV (comma separated values) file, suitable for inclusion in databases and spreadsheets. Most commercial websites that reference a database dispense single database, reserving the CentralView for the people at the center of the project. This is called a webstacle (see http://dirs.org/wiki-article-tab.cfm/webstacle). FTP (or better yet SQL via TELNET) would probably be better for an internet facility for information volunteers than typical CGI practice. A user-friendly and web-accessible front-end for information volunteer activities is probably possible, but I have difficulty imagining what it would look like, let alone designing one. Unfortunately my computer skills are stuck in the 20th century.
