We are all subject to spamming people in one way or another. We have a right to spam in pursuit of our interests. But this right must be limited. Some people like spam. My wife won't let me filter out all of her spam. But individuals need to be protected from spam overload that prevents them from communicating effectively. Because spam can significantly reduce the quality of life.

Taxing spam would be cool. A a penny an email and nobody else would need to pay any taxes, the added surplus would enable us to populate the MarsFrontier and beyond.

But spams nature is that it is uncontrolled and beyond control because the internet is by nature the chaortic union of all networks. Only busted spammers would pay tax.

We can authenticate users and block those who break the rules. Yet spammers can and do get past most controls on all community site large or small.

The only control we really have is indirect facilitation in how we allow spam. Spammers don't like trouble, and if you allow certain spam and block and bust (report) spammers who get past your rules, the spammer is likely to take the easy path and spam in the allowed manner and not fight your controls such as TuringTests.

There must be limits on spam.

  1. It must not be overtly offensive or exhibit porn on this site. Linking to porn should be reasonably in good taste, e.g. no rape or child sex on this site.
  2. Spam is allowed on a users own user page or page linked from there with appropriate relevant page name.
  3. Spam page updates should be updated no more than one a week.
  4. Too much spam is not allowed.
  5. Should spam become excessive registration of new spammers may be susspended and/or the most offending spammers blocked.

This is not a complete set of rules since it does not stipulate what is too much. further restriction will be imposed as deemed necessary.

I must be losing my mind? I am allowing spam! Most of our reader are the spammers these days so why not be hospitable.
