SellingOURWay

This title reflects two aspects:

  • The (annoying) practice of capitalizing first person plural pronouns.
  • EDS' current golfomercial campaign, featuring their slogan "Our Software Sold Your Way".

EDS is famous for its indenture program, and also for its golfomercial of several years ago about "herding cats". As anyone who has lived with one (or more) can attest, cats are a symbol of autonomy and independence. EDS, on the other hand, is a symbol of control and authority. Now EDS is telling me that their software has sold my way. My way of doing what? Perish the thought that they're referring to PubWan, because I cherish the thought that PubWanIsNotForSale.

In spite of my wishes for a non proprietary PubWanFuture, I have on occasion talked of "selling" PubWan. In these contexts I was always "selling" as in selling someone ON something, not selling the something itself. It is inexact use of language, as technically selling means persuading someone to spend money, not simply persuading. I'm merely trying to sell a few good people on the idea that they might find it fun and sometimes beneficial to VolunteerInformation, so my way of selling could be thought of as VolunteerRecruiting.

The growing content heap present here may also be worth selling as in VolunteerRecruiting. The chatter about [MillionDollarIdeas|], WeInc, CoralCalcium (and its testimonial-style promo), etc. suggests the other (infomercialish) type of selling, which I tend to avoid associating with. Whether WE want to sell our way that way is up to US. If it were up to ME, it'd be 100% soft sell and no money games. But it isn't. It's up to each of US to figure out OUR own comfort levels. If there's enough of US on the same page, WE can sell OUR way in whatever way makes sense to US.

It appears that the WikiWorld has two questions to deal with:

  1. What is OURWay?
  2. What is OUR way of selling OURWay?

There are myriads of possibilities, hopefully WE can find a few that are in good taste.

Thank you for your support,

LorraineLee

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

When we started XanthusInc I used my father's attorney because my father had such complete faith in him which equaled to my parents unconditional love for their children.

We met with Max (the attorney), concluded our business and then he asked: Do you think you can conduct business with the integrity your father has?'

I thought for a moment, accepted the challenge, and said: Yes, I believe we can.

He replied quietly, I don't think so.

And perhaps he is right, Maybe I can't. But perhaps WE can.

OURWay is the right way or the highway.

  1. always provide value accurately presented.
  2. promote what is creative.
  3. discourage what is destructive.
  4. allow everything else.

LorraineLee, I have a good amount of respect for you, but as I've said elsewhere... The Greater Collective of Humans is focused on getting more... goods and sex. The HumanAnimal is a selfish, greedy creature. And the more HumanAnimals we have here, the more likely this WE will be about making a quick buck out of a GetRichQuickSchemes.

WE have to accept some commercialism. It pays WikiWorld's bills after all. So I have no problem with the sponsors of this site advertising on the bottom of the page (it is more effective to put those ads on the top of the page, you know. More likely to be 'seen' by the user, XanthusInc and its Agents ;-), or the CoralCalcium. Heck, I've asked for a simple plug in that would let them run whatever ad they want on pages its used in body (since our sponsor seems to think he needs such on his own personal page here), as well as checking and suggesting changes for their other pages. That falls in what I see as my own participation in supporting this site in a valuable way. (Not as valuable as just sending them money, of course, but still... ;)

But for the others? If I find the idea interesting, I might contribute or debate. Otherwise, I leave it be.

Now, if you will excuse me, I was busy recovering for a while, so I'm going back to catching up on the various activity that I have missed.---StarPilot
